The parent company of BCG was founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas by Max Gochman as the Academy Tire Shop and military surplus store.
In 1973, Max’s son Arthur Gochman purchased Southern Surplus Sales in Houston, Texas, and changed its name to “Academy Corp.” In 1995, the company changed its name to “Academy Sports + Outdoors”.
